Windows: Connecting to VTCRI-Wireless

This will walk you through connecting to the FBRI wireless network (VTCRI-Wireless) on a Windows PC.  This was written for Windows 10, however, the steps will be the same or similar on other versions of Windows. 

If you already have VTCRI-Wireless as a wireless network on your computer, you will need to remove it first before you can add it again with the below instructions. To do so, perform the following steps (skip to the next section if this does not apply):

  1. Click the WiFi icon in your taskbar (denoted by a icon with waves emanating from it).
  2. Select Network & Internet settings from the list that appears.
  3. Select Wi-Fi from the list on the left hand side of the window.
  4. Select Manage known networks from the list that appears in the right hand side of the window.
  5. Select VTCRI-Wireless and then click the Forget button that appears.

Add VTCRI-Wireless to your computer:

  1. Click the search icon (magnifying glass) in the lower left of your system taskbar and search for "Control Panel".
  2. In the upper right of the Control Panel window change View By to Large Icons.
  3. Select the Network & Sharing Center.
  4. Select Set up a new connection or network.
  5. Select Manually connect to a wireless network.
  6. When prompted enter the following details:

    1. Network Name: VTCRI-Wireless (this is case sensitive)

    2. Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise

  7. Press Next

    1. Select Change Connection Settings.

    2. Click the Security tab.

    3. Beside Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP), click Settings

    4. Uncheck Verify the Server Identity by validating the certificate

    5. Make sure Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is selected under “Select Authentication Method”.

    6. Click Configure.

    7. Uncheck the box beside Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).

    8. Click OK.

    9. Click OK.

    10. Select Advanced Settings.

    11. Check the box for Specify Authentication Mode.

    12. Under “Specify authentication mode” select User Authentication.

    13. Click Save credentials then enter your FBRI username and password (do not include the in the user name field.  For example, if your FBRI email is then your username would be newuser).

    14.  Click OK.

    15. Click OK.

    16.  Close the window.

  8. You should now be connected to the VTCRI-Wireless network.
