When providing access to various servers and equipment you may be granted SSH access. SSH is a Secure Shell where all traffic passed through this connection is encrypted. It offers console access to Linux, network equipment, monitoring equipment, and possibly even Windows Servers. Due to the encryption provided, this method is preferred over non secure methods like Telnet.
Various software packages exist to help with establishing an SSH connection. For Mac OS X and Linux, we recommend using the SSH client that's built into the operating system, often called "Terminal" on both. For Windows, we recommend using Putty, Powershell or even Command Prompt.
