Lab Shares

The FBRI provides each Lab with a shared storage space on the network referred to as a Lab Share.  The Lab Share is accessible by all members of the Lab and is intended for use within the group as determined by the Lab.  Examples of items stored here  may include shared documents, procedures, presentations, photos, videos, etc.  Some Labs may choose to store research data in their Lab Share, while others prefer the Project Shares.

NOTE: You will need to be connected to the FBRI wired network or FBRI VPN to access these resources.

LAB SHARE UNC PATH: \\fileservices.vtc.vt.edu\labs

Accessing Lab Shares:

  • On a FBRI Windows computer, your Lab Share should be mapped for you automatically and assigned the drive letter L:\.  If your Windows PC does not have Lab Shares mapped, you can find instructions to do so here
  • On a Mac or OS X device, you can map to the UNC path by following the instructions found here.
  • On a FBRI-provided Linux server, you can access your Lab Share via auto-mounts using the path:

     /mnt/nfs/labs/lab name

Where lab name is the directory name of lab share, typically the PI's last name, i.e. "Smith"

PLEASE NOTE: Data stored on the network is backed up and protected.  FBRI does not backup or protect data stored locally on workstations.

REQUESTING ACCESS: An on-line access request is required to add / remove people from network shares.  All access requests must be submitted by authorized personnel.
