Virginia Tech data, which includes research and intellectual property data, may only be stored on:
- Local departmental storage and servers (i.e. FBRI storage clusters)
- University-owned storage
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Google Drive
Personal data may not be stored or backed up on Virginia Tech resources or university owned computers.
Virginia Tech data should not be stored in unapproved cloud storage platforms such as iCloud, Box, DropBox, etc.

Also, please note that software in use by university faculty, staff, and students, and any software used on university-owned computers, must be approved for purchase and use by VT Procurement, The IT Security Office, and Virginia Tech Legal. Software should only be purchased using a PO through the FBRI IT Team and cannot be purchased via PCard, personal credit card, or any other personal funding.
